'Make lewd emails illegal'

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I read your front page story (18/4/08) about Lisa Hannah being targeted by unscrupulous people on the Internet.

A similar occurrence is taking place with both United States presidential hopefuls, Hillary Clinton and Barrack Obama, where lewd concocted (manipulated) photos are being circulated. I fully agree with Ms Hannah that our Parliament needs to pass the necessary laws to punish persons who circulate these emails.

I know we cannot prevent persons from receiving the emails but those who receive these offensive emails should be able to report the person who sent them so the source can be traced and the senders punished.

I always delete immediately those I receive, and I recommend that others do the same.

I commend THE STAR for bringing this disgusting practice to the public's attention and also Ms Hannah for her excellent response. I hope that the required resolution will be brought by her to Parliament quickly.

All Internet users should support this law, as today it may be the famous, but tomorrow it can happen to anyone.

I am, etc.,

Michael Williams
