We're back! THE STAR poll is here once again and dare we say, better than ever. We hit'the streets with all the juiciest questions about sex, obeah, music, religion and much more and now we're ready to give you the results. Prepare to be shocked and amused like never before.
It is no secret that many Jamaicans believe in the power of obeah. Although some say no such thing exists and cite the
popular adage 'belief kills and belief cures', we cannot hide from the reality that there are those who practise and ascribe to such
customs.
We wanted to find out more about how people felt about obeah, so we asked :
Are you a strong believer in obeah, or do you believe, but not strongly, or do you not believe in obeah at all ? Here's what we found out:
Strong believer 7%
Not a strong believer 17%
Do not believe 75%
Don't know 1%
It is obvious that the majority of respondents do not believe in obeah, or at least, this is what they told the pollster. Next in line were those who said they believed in obeah to an extent, but not strongly. It is hard to believe that only 17 per cent of people fell into this category as there are many people who are quick to blame 'obeah' for the shortcomings in their lives.
The poll was conducted on January 28-29 by Johnson Survey Research Limited
Sample size: 1,008 residents
