Reno safe but Seba, Georges, Arnett have it all to play for

Ainsley Walters, Freelance Writer

SEBA UNITED, who dug themselves into a hole by not showing for an April 30 match against Reno, must win their last Premier League game at home against Arnett Gardens this Sunday, to avoid relegation.

Reno yesterday secured their spot for next season, outscoring safe-team Village United 3-2 at St Elizabeth Technical High, moving to 43 points and avoiding all possibilities of demotion, including head-to-head calculations, should they lose at St Georges on Sunday.

However, last-place August Town, who were clinging to hopes of a win at Arnett Gardens to stay in the nation's top flight, were sent packing after going down 2-0 at the Tony Spaulding Sports Complex.

Seba's goalless home draw against St Georges at Jarrett Park left both teams in a must-win situation this Sunday.

Seba are on 42 points, awaiting Arnett, whereas St Georges on 41 have home advantage over Reno at Lynch Park, gunning for a win to ensure their survival.

80th-minute penalty

Meanwhile, Arnett on 43 points are not yet out of the woods. Should their match at Seba end in a draw and St Georges beat Reno, Arnett would take the drop with August Town.

Atop the league, champions Portmore rallied from a goal down at Brancourt to beat sporting Central 2-1. Captain Anthony Modeste added the coup de grace with an 80th-minute penalty after Steven Morrissey took a minute to cancel Levaughn Williams 31st-minute strike.

Victory moved Portmore to 74 points, nine clear of Tivoli, who got a morale-boosting 4-3 win against Waterhouse at Drewsland ahead of next Tuesday's COK Champions Cup final, set for Harbour View, starting at 5:00 p.m.

Leon Strickland booted home a hat-trick for Waterhouse but Tivoli, who went behind in the 26th minute, rallied to lead 3-1 off goals from Craig Stewart (34th), Jermaine Taylor (51st) and Jermaine Grey (62nd).

Strickland pulled Waterhouse level, completing his hat-trick with 72nd and 76th-minute goals before Roland Dean netted Tivoli's winner in the 80th.

Meanwhile, Boys' Town held fourth-place Harbour View to a 0-0 draw in the evening's late game at Compound, ensuring third place behind Portmore and Tivoli, staying five points clear of their rivals with a game in hand.

Boys' Town goalkeeper Philmore Crumbie did just enough to keep out stinging shots in the 26th and 29th minutes.

André Fagan first tested the Boys' Town goalie, dribbling into the box and unleashed a torrid shot from the right, which flew out of the 'keeper's hand. Marcelino Blackburn's header off the rebound was cleared off the line.

Jermaine Hue drove straight at Crumbie in the 29th but the Boys' Town goalie had his near post covered although beaten for pace.

Nicholas Beckett should have put Harbour View 1-0 up seven minutes from time but unbelievably spun his shot over the bar, unmarked at the penalty spot.
