Kapri eyes the Big prize

contributed-Kapri

Like most deejays and singers, finding their musical foundation in idle competitions and friendly rivalry during school days is quite common and so, it came as no surprise when Dwayne 'Kapri' Wallace decided to take on music as a profession.

Kapri says he got started in music from school days, "performing at after-Champs fêtes, the first one was at Puma Finish Line in 2004".

From there, Kapri said he entered a competition called Battle Thursdays, which was started by Mr G (formerly known as Goofy), "and I became one of the reigning champions. Then, Seanizzle (producer) voice mi pon him rhythm called Stepfather and the single was called March Out and that was my first ever single".

Kapri then went on to voice a second single which he says, "was even better". The single was titled, This Letter, for which he did a video. That song and video, Kapri says, gave him some much needed exposure and from there, he started getting calls to perform at stage shows.

Since then, Kapri has moved on to making some major appearances at shows like Spring Break 2008, Black My Story (in February) and Sizzla's earth strong show in Temple Hall last month.

Kapri currently has a new single on the Creepa rhythm called Dear Mama and it has already been featured on BBC 1Xtra and in other media, both locally and internationally.

"No limit, no boundaries" is what Kapri says, as he plans to bring "a new energy, a new ambiance to dancehall. So look out for my new video (Dear Mama), which will be shot soon. I also have a single called The Prince on the Hungry Town rhythm produced by Mac and Grano from Fagan Frat".

Kapri says he would love to collaborate with artistes, both locally and internationally, as he made mention of Bounty Killer, Elephant Man, Lil' Wayne and Kanye West.

Currently, Kapri is hard at work in the studio and is focusing on a single that he has with Turbulance on the BBB Entertainment label.
