Six of eight teenagers from a high school in Portland are to go on trial in connection with the beating up of a classmate whom they accused of being gay.
The eight male students, whose ages range from 14-16 years, were charged with unlawful wounding and assault occasioning bodily harm following the April 8 attack on their 15-year-old classmate.
However, two were freed of the charges when they appeared in court on May 6, while the others were granted bail in the sum of $35,000 each. They will go on trial in the Buff Bay Juvenile Court on July 25.
According to reports, a group of students attacked the complainant and inflicted several blows all over his body after they got into a verbal altercation during which he was referred to as a homosexual.
The complainant reportedly had to seek medical attention and subsequently made a report to the police.
