An 18-year-old boy, who robbed four students at the Undergrad College of their cellular phones, will have to purchase a replacement phone for one of the students.
David Douglas, of Golden Spring, St Andrew, appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Wednesday and pleaded guilty to four counts of robbery with aggravation.
The court was told that the accused and two other boys went to the school on Dunrobin Avenue and held up and robbed students of their cellphones and other items.
The court also heard that the students held on to Douglas and beat him. Three of the stolen phones were allegedly found on him.
Berry Bryan, who represented the accused, applied for bail for his client but this was denied by Senior Resident Magistrate Glen Brown.
Bryan also told the court that his client was only the watchman for the two boys doing the robbery and afterwards they sprinted off leaving him behind. The attorney said the mob of students was then able to catch up with his client. However, one of the complainants said Douglas was in the robbery and he was the one who robbed her.
One of the complainants asked the court if she could get a new cellphone and RM Brown told the investigating officer to show the attorney the phone so that the accused could have it when he next returned to court.
