The family and friends of Holmwood Technical High School student, Shanika Clarke, are today mourning her death after the girl was killed in a motor vehicle collision which left 13 others injured yesterday.
Clarke, 15, of Georges Valley in Manchester, lost her life after a two-vehicle collision on the New Green road.
The Constabulary Communication Network's liaison officer for Manchester reported that at 8:15 a.m., Clarke and the others were passengers in a Toyota Hiace bus driven by Delroy Wood.
On reaching a section of the road, the bus was involved in a collision with a Ford Carrier Motor truck, driven by Franklyn Campbell and travelling in the opposite direction. All the passengers in the Toyota Hiace sustained injuries and were taken to the Mandeville Hospital where Clarke was pronounced dead.
Others treated
The collision also caused injury to Ricoy Bramwell, Roy Senior, Shana Wright and Rashaun Robinson. Peta Fronty, Moya Douglas, Anthony Beulah, Kezmore Powell, Demar Young, Jerome Rowe, Jevaughn Albert, Shaquina Henry, and Kaniesha Buckle, all of Manchester addresses, also sustained injuries.
But Young, Rowe, Albert and Henry were admitted in serious condition while the others were treated and released.
When the STAR spoke with vice-principal of Holmwood Technical, Edward Hector, he said, "The school and the community of Christiana are trying as best as possible to cope with the tragedy as we are very much shaken up right now. We hope that the Guidance Counselling Association will assist us with dealing with the pain."
