Aliondro makes his return

By Anthony Minott, Freelance Writer

Aliondro at Rising Stars. - Anthony Minott

Aliondro, who made the Digicel Rising Stars top ten in Mandeville in 2006, but just missed out on a studio finals because of a lack of votes, made a return to the competition at the 2008 auditions in Kingston, at the Young Womens' Christian Association (YWCA), 51 Arnold Road on Saturday.

The artiste whose real name is John Braithwaite said that he had improved his material over the past two years, and is back to win.

"I'm 100 per cent confident of winning this competition, I know the mistakes I made two years ago. I have corrected them and I am now on the right path," he said.

On the day of the audition he performed So Sick, and the preliminary judge gave him a call-back slip to return the following day.

The last time around Aliondro did some self-promotion, singing on buses plying the Half-Way Tree to Portmore route, then requesting votes from the passengers.

The Portmore based artiste is a barber, but manages his time so that he can pursue his singing career.

During his two-year absence from Rising Stars, Aliondro has been singing at nightclubs such as the Asylum, and the Hilton Kingston hotel in New Kingston and hopes one day he will become a household name in Jamaica. He is currently working on some original material and vows to take the "music industry by storm."
