St James man who is accused of dousing his co-worker with hot oil during an argument was granted bail with surety in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court on Thursday.
Kayo Clarke, 21, of Rosemount in Montego Bay, was offered bail in the sum of $250,000 for charges of assault occasioning grievous bodily harm.
Keep distance
He was ordered to report to the Mount Salem Police Station on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The accused was also warned to stay away from the complainant.
RM Sandria Wong-Small reminded the accused that any breach of the bail conditions would result in him returning to jail.
It is alleged that on April 16, the men were at work at a popular fast-food restaurant in Montego Bay when the complainant found his shirt in a garbage bin.
The complainant made a report to his manager and during the conversation with Clarke, the manager and complainant, an argument followed.
Injuries
It is alleged that during the argument, Clarke threw some boiling oil on to the complainant, causing injuries to the left side of the face, shoulder and arm. Another worker was also allegedly injured. Clarke was held on May 8.
In a bail application, defence attorney Jacqueline Minto argued that his client acted in self-defence. She said the restaurant manager had sent the two men home. However, the complainant did not feel satisfied and pursued her client with a knife. Hence, the accused saw no other option but to defend himself.
The court is still awaiting a medical report to ascertain the seriousness of the complainant's injuries. The matter is scheduled for mention on June 24.
