For several months, THE STAR has been publishing a feature called 'Missing You' aimed at helping worried family members and friends to find their missing relatives.
It is interesting that so many people are going missing in our little island of 2.6 million people almost daily. Almost every day that the feature is published, a new face is in it. and the family members all want the same thing: information that will help them bring their relatives back home.
What is interesting is that rarely are there articles indicating that the missing persons are found. Thankfully, the one published in THE Wednesday Star was one of the happier ones.
It was about a 72-year-old woman who had gone missing and was found after the article of her disappearance was published in THE STAR. Thankfully, her family has her back home with them and their minds are more at ease.
There should be more happy stories like this for families whose loved ones have gone missing. In a few months THE STAR will end its feature and although it will try to publish information about as many missing people as it possibly can, nonetheless, there needs to be a more concerted effort, possibly by the police, to find missing people.
There needs to be a channel that allows the wide circulation of the information of missing people within hours of their reported disappearance so that all can be done to find them before the worst happens.
