Ganja seized in Planter's Hall

Dwayne Mcleod, Staff Reporter

The St Catherine South police on Tuesday seized a large quantity of ganja and two illegal firearms during a raid in Planter's Hall on the outskirts of Old Harbour.

Reports are that about 2:30 p.m., a police team went to a premises where they found more than 2,000 pounds (909 kilograms) of compressed ganja, estimated to be valued at more than $1 million.

Two home-made handguns were also reportedly found on the property.

No one was arrested in connection with the find as the house was empty.

Investigators say that, based on intelligence, the seized marijuana was destined for Haiti as part of the dangerous guns-for-drugs trade.
