Jamaica face Bahamas ahead of volleyball championships

Keisha Hill, Staff Reporter

The Jamaica Volleyball Asso-ciation's (JAVA) male and female teams will play a series of friendly matches against The Bahamas in preparation for the Caribbean Championships scheduled for the Garfield Sobers Sports Complex in Barbados from July 13-21.

The Bahamians are expected to arrive in the island on Friday, June 20, with the matches being played on Saturday, June 21 and Sunday, June 22 at the University of the West Indies gymnasium.

President of JAVA, Wayne Robertson, stated that the team was in full preparation for the championships, which he indicated would not be an easy feat.

Team Jamaica will be going up against Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago, U.S. Virgin Islands, Bahamas, St Lucia and St Vincent.

"We are preparing vigorously to compete fiercely," Robertson said. "We expect the teams to deliver top-class performances. But we will not take the challenge easily, especially against Barbados. We are ensuring that the team is mentally and physically prepared for the encounter," he added.

Female team: Georgette Crawford Crooks, Cheryl Daley, Keisha Edwards, Simone Forbes, Nardrake Hutchinson, Khesia Miller-Livingston, Shantel Moore, Paula Ann Porter-Jones, Tracey Ann Pryce-Findlay, Cherine Richards, Naima Stennet, Kai Wright.

Male team: Robert Andrews, Dellan Brown, Ricardo Chong, Namarie Gordon, Mark Lewis, Andre McLean, Delford Morgan, Richard Reynolds, Tafaire Samuels, Errol Smith, Conaradio Taylor, Dany Wilson.
