Michael McLean, Star Writer

Santa Cruz, St. Elizabeth

A 25-year-old man who was caught stealing a Monster energy drink from a supermarket in Santa Cruz, two months ago, was fined in the Santa Cruz RM Court last Thursday.

Rohan Distant of Knoxwood district in the parish, pleaded guilty and was fined $10,000 or 10 days imprisonment if he is unable to pay the fine.

Distant was arrested and charged with simple larceny after he was caught with the drink, valued at $159, in his pocket, after he had earlier purchase a bun and cheese at the same supermarket.

The court was told that on March 13 this year, Distant went to Federal Supermarket in Santa Cruz, where he purchased the bun and cheese. He went back into the store and while he was having a conversation on his cellphone, he walked pass the cashier with the drink in his pocket. He was accosted and stopped by the security guard. He was held and the police were called in. He was taken into custody and later arrested and charged.
