'Gamers' it is time to say goodbye to gym fees, personal trainers and workouts in uncomfortable places. Well not totally, but Nintendo is trying to ensure this.Nintento Wii Fit is a clever product bringing 'gamers' and 'non-gamers' together to get healthy. It crushes the idea of games being a huge waste of time.
With the Wii Fit you control your on-screen action with your movements on a 'balance board' as you work your way through a variety of challenges. You can get fit with more than 40 activities and exercises in four categories; strength training, aerobics, yoga and balance games.
Mix fitness
It is a creative way to mix fitness and fun and is a good choice for persons bored with continuously going to the gym or too self-conscious to join a yoga or aerobics class.
The main part of the Wii Fit is the graceful looking balance board, which is quite sturdy. It has several built-in scales that can sense changes in weight and pressure while you are standing on it.
The board is fairly heavy at around 9lb, wireless with the Wii, and uses four AA batteries. It has four rubber stands to prevent it from sliding. These feet can also be extended so that the board is higher. It is sensitive and is able to pick up even the smallest change in weight.
The board, however, is only able to hold a maximum weight of 330lb. The Wii Fit, unfortunately, is restricted by some strange absences, such as not being able to make your own programmes for exercising. It also has doubtful health advice, which may limit its success both as a fitness tool and as a game.
It is not the total work-out answer (it's not a cardio machine), but it offers a good way to track weight and time spent working out, giving users a better picture of how their health is progressing.
The games included under the four categories are:
