FUGITIVE APPREHENDED

Members of the Fugitive Apprehension Team yesterday apprehended a fugitive who was wanted for murder by the United States Justice System during a joint police/military operation at Hill Run, Spanish Town, St Catherine.

The fugitive, 26-year-old David Jason Clarke, also known as 'David McDermott', 'Andrew Gayle', 'Biggs' and 'Bigboy', was wanted in connection with the June 16, 2007 double murder of a common-law couple in Florida. Clarke reportedly fled to Jamaica shortly after. The US authorities then issued an arrest warrant for Clarke for two counts of first-degree murder.

Personnel from the Organised Crime Division's Fugitive Apprehension Team, Mobile Reserve and the Jamaica Defence Force arrested him about 5:30 a.m. yesterday, on a provisional warrant, during an operation.

Clarke is expected to appear in the Corporate Area Criminal Court for an extradition hearing soon.
