An attorney representing two policemen charged with several counts of criminal acts told the court that she will not be applying for bail, as statements are outstanding and she needs all copies before she does this.
Valerie Neita-Robertson, representing Corporal Hopeton Reid and Constable Germaine Anderson, who are facing charges of indecent assault, aiding and abetting, attempting to pervert the court of justice and breaches of the Corruption Prevention Act, opted to wait until Thursday to make bail applications.
The attorney told Resident Magistrate Marcia Dunbar-Green in the Spanish Town RM Court that there is no doubt the policemen, who are from the Portmore Police Station, will turn up for their trial.
The RM requested that all statements concerning the matter be presented to the defence. The men were subsequently remanded.
Allegations are that about 7:30 p.m. on Friday, June 13, 2008, the lawmen were on patrol in Portmore, St Catherine, when, upon reaching a section of the Hellshire main road, they caught a man and a woman engaging in a sexual act in a car. The couple were reprimanded and also asked for money. The man, who is said to be a pastor, handed over $1,000.
Further allegations say they were not satisfied and the female reportedly promised them US$1,000. She was taken to a section of the Dyke Road and forced to commit sexual acts on both lawmen. The matter was reported and the policemen reportedly went on the run.
They later turned themselves in and a file was sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions, who ruled that they be charged.
