JET SKIER caught the eye on June 7, closing for second behind fellow American-bred DIABOLICAL KID after being slowly into stride at 1200 metres and looks a good thing for tomorrow's seventh event at 1400 metres.
In only his second start since leaving Tony Kirlew's barn, JET SKIER closed the exacta behind DIABOLICAL KID, running on at long odds, 34-1, beating as many as five runners he will face in tomorrow's 12-horse line-up.
The four-year-old colt looked promising at the backend of last season when confined to middle distance races, consistently placing from a mile to seven furlongs, even finishing fifth in the Grade One MegaFone Mile on Superstakes day behind FIRSTINTHESAND.
However, his programme seemingly went awry at the start of this year when he was entered in the 11-furlong Fan Appreciation Day Trophy, signalling the start of him being entered in varying distances including a nine-furlong and 25-yard event.
Those distance races in which he performed dismally, could have affected JET SKIER, who should now be better for the run, having been rested for three months by her new trainer.
Denrick Chambers has so far started JET SKIER in two sprint races. He finished six lengths behind DIABOLICAL KID at 1100 metres on May 23 and returned two weeks later to finish three lengths behind the Wayne DaCosta-trained runner on May 7 after missing the break.
Now stretched out at 1400 metres, where he has proven to be comfortable, Chambers' runner only needs a clean break to beat his rivals, who could run themselves into the ground with a strong early pace expected from UNBREAKABLE HEART, THE QUEEN and GOOD SENSE.
Track Price Plus pick-6 players should take note of Robert Darby's tough grey gelding, NASATOL, looks set to beat rivals at his favourite distance, 1000 metres straight, in tomorrow's ninth event.
Last out on June 14, NASATOL ran an even race for fourth behind MUCHO GUSTO, SATISFIER and RIO INFINITO, gaining at the end to finish three and a half-length adrift.
NASATOL was actually slipping down in class, from Open Allowance company where he had been campaigning against much tougher opposition from as far back as last December.
Prior to being beaten by MUCHO GUSTO on the round course, NASATOL finished a length third behind course specialist EXPLOSIVE PEAK and the very fit CRUCIAL POINT in Open Allowance at 1000 metres straight, an event run in a very fast 58.2.
NASATOL is also favourably drawn at post-position 10 from where he will come with his usual strong kick inside the final furlong.
Walker should also boot home hat-trick seeker KEELER in Race Six of the CTL Claiming Series, one of two trophy races on the 11-race card, which has a $11 million Pick-9 carryover, starting at the third event.
The day's other trophy event, the 1800-metre Valbert Marlowe Memorial, should be easily won by RANSOM MAN with Clive Lynch aboard.
Slowly away at 1000 metres straight on June 7, the 2006 Derby winner, will be much more comfortable at 1800 metres and should get the better of the late-closing GETAWAYBOY.
