A man accused of breaching the Trademark Act by attaching his own brand to already manufactured toilet tissue, appeared before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.

Charged with breaches of the Trademark Act is Owen Collins, of a Luke Lane, Kingston address.

The court was told that on June 9, a police party carried out an operation in the Luke Lane area and searched a premises occupied by Collins. It is alleged that 1400 cartons of toilet tissue, bearing the characteristics of the brand Pure Joy, were found. The products however, had a different brand attached to them.

Collins' lawyer told the court however, that information he obtained from the relevant authorities, suggested that there was no existing trademark.

That issue will be explored more when the case is mentioned again on July 23.
