St Thomas Top three: Kaydene "K'Alee" Anderson, Jaelesa "Patrice" Ellis and R3
1. Kaydene "K'Alee" Anderson
Twenty-two year old, Kaydene Anderson is one of the top three finalists from St Thomas who will move on to the studio segment of the 'Digicel Rising Stars' competition.
Her performance of Listen by R&B superstar Beyonce (from the Dream Girls soundtrack), got the Judges to pay attention to her range and obvious talent. K'Alee, as she calls herself, is a karaoke host who lives in Kingston.
This soulful singer admits that she is different from the other contestants because of her talent and personality. "I'm creative and spontaneous. I'm open to whatever challenges that come, open to try new things. I write poetry and my own songs," she said.
Adding, "Jamaica should vote for me because I won't disappoint them. I have a good personality, I'm crazy. I can sing anything. I like taking a song and learning it their [the original artiste's] way and then being able to do it my way, by putting my own flavour to it."
2. Jaelesa "Patrice" Ellis
Judges' choice Jaelesa 'Patrice' Ellis secured her place in the top ten with her rendition of Run To You by Whitney Houston. The 17 year old songstress is a student at the Garmex Heart Academy in Kingston. The Merl Grove High School past student says she uses performers like Whitney Houston to help hone her craft.
"I chose Whitney because she is a powerful singer, her voice is unique. I use her and other artistes to train my voice, in terms of pitch and range," she said.
I am different: "What makes me
different is my personality, I'm jovial and I'm a multitalented individual; an individual who sees that I can make a difference or a change. I am from the ghetto and I want people to see that something good can come from the ghetto." She also dances, dabbles in art and is also a track and field athlete.
"Jamaica should vote for me because I'm the best. I can make a positive change in Jamaican society through music, in collaboration with the other talents that I have." she added.
3. R3
"The Radical three" is how St Thomas top three contestants R3 describe themselves.
According to the trio, R3 is not just another group because of its versatility and undeniable talent.
Performing Lady B by The Beetles, Curtis Gordon, Byron McLawrence and Kevin Williams demonstrated their range and vocal abilities, especially their impressive harmony. They are all employed at the Edna Manley College for the Visual and Performing Arts.
The members of R3 list a number of factors that make them unique. "We have a unique sound that the people were longing
for. We love to socialise with people," said group member Curtis Gordon.
McLawrence highlights that his winning spirit is unmatched. "I'm a very organised person. I plan it out first in my mind. I want to be the best at everything I do."
Williams attributes his uniqueness to his commitment. "I take my thing serious and I can perform different from the others and the way I dress, I dress unique."
"Jamaica should vote for us because I think we have the talent and we have the look. We have a unique sound, the image and we can dress also. We have the stage appearance. The group is versatile and we have a good harmony so I think Jamaica should vote for R3." Williams said.
