Yendi Amira Phillipps, born September 8, 1985, is the younger of two children. She is a born and bred Kingstonian.
As a 'tomboy' she enjoyed many outdoor activities, which perhaps led to her love of sports. She makes no hesitation in being always ready to "rally roun' di Windies".
She attended Sts Peter and Paul Preparatory School, went on to St Andrew High School for Girls, thereafter honing her skills as a dancer at the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts.
She went on to complete her Bachelor of Fine Arts in dance at the State University of New York, College at Brockport. There she also completed the course work for her master's in recreation and leisure management studies, for which she is currently writing her thesis document.
Throughout her life's experience Yendi received many awards, including the Rex Nettleford award for choreography and the Saint International Commercial Model of the Year award.
However, none proved as rewarding as being given the honour of carrying the title of Miss Jamaica World 2007.
In the Miss Jamaica World pageant, Yendi won five of the seven sectional prizes awarded, and continued with similar momentum as she was a finalist in all five fast-track events at the Miss World pageant in Sanya, China. She is the first Jamaican contestant to ever have done so.
Her latest accomplishment is that of becoming the host of Digicel Rising Stars, an opportunity which she is very enthusiastic about, as she hopes this will be the beginning of a very accomplished career in the entertainment world.
At age 22, Yendi feels very blessed and grateful for all that has come her way, and knows that this is her destined path, as nothing happens by accident.
She makes it known that she lives by the motto 'Live in love, Love life!'
