Man's ear bitten off in custody

Two men who were already in custody appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday following an incident between both that left one with his right ear being bitten off.

Both men were facing charges of assault occasioning bodily harm.

Allegations are that both men, Ricardo Campbell and Alton Williams, had a dispute during which Campbell bit off Williams' ear.

Campbell, in his defence, told the court that he was merely defending himself as Williams was always 'beating' him up and had bitten him in his chest during the altercation. Williams was awaiting legal aid assistance in a carnal abuse matter involving a 12-year-old.

Bail was allowed for both parties.
