WATERFORD TURNS 33

Pastor calls for unity to fight crime at church service and peace march

Pastor Donald Walters of the Hope Temple Apostolic Church called all residents of Waterford to unite to fight the scourge of crime that has held back progress in the community in recent time.

Pastor Walters was talking at the Waterford community 33rd anniversary church service at his church recently.

The clergyman, in his heart-bleeding sermon, said that Waterford was not the worse of places and urged the congregation to rebuild their community. He added that Waterford is "one community under God!"

He requested them to build back the walls of prayer and forgiveness. He didn't mince words when he asked residents to be their brothers' keeper by looking out for a fellow neighbour like what used to be the norm in the height of the community's development.

Earlier, Rupert Walters, chairman of the Waterford Development Council (WDC), gave a overview of the community's achievements over the years.

MORE POSITIVES

He said that the positives of Waterford far overweighs the negatives, pointing to the successes of Waterford Primary and Basic and the calibre of students produced there. Walters, a man who has lived in the community for over two decades, feels that many youngsters who are caught up in wrongdoing, do so because of a lack of opportunities. He pleaded with stakeholders to point these youngsters to different avenues of employment.

Member of parliament for the area, Colin Fagan, gave greetings, while members of the school and church communities were in attendance.

At the end of the service, community-based organisations, such as churches and schools, senior citizens and the WDC were led in a march by the Pathfinders Marching Band from the Waterford Seventh- day Adventist Church.
