Thanks from Morant Bay

THE EDITOR, Sir:

Please give me a small space in your column to say thanks for a job well done re getting the stagnant water off Murray Avenue in Morant Bay, St Thomas.

The situation was very bad when the septic water used to be on the street. I wrote several letters suggesting raising the level of the street, since nothing was being done to prevent the water coming onto the street.

I must say thanks to whoever saw the grave situation (health hazard) and did something about it before it became an epidemic, a disaster among our people.

I am sure I am not the only person willing to say how grateful we are to the people who have done such a fine job. However, I am sure I am not the only one who wishes to see more improvements done in the town of Morant Bay.

Existing problems are: Open manholes, more garbage bins needed within the market area and proper sanitary conveniences for the general public. The town of Morant Bay really needs a general facelift in many, many ways. And I believe the St Thomas Parish Council needs to be more vigilant in its efforts to do something to mitigate even a tiny bit of the growing problems within this our beloved town of Morant Bay.

I am, etc.,

J.A. Bailey

St Thomas
