Heron family reunion

If your surname so happens to be Heron or any other variation of that name, Heiron, O'Haron or Herne, to name a few, it is important that you huddle up and head out to the Mandeville Hotel, Manchester, come July 24 for the grand Heron family reunion. The event will run until July 29.

The event, now being staged for the second time, the first being in 2005, is an open event to anyone, given that they bear the name or are otherwise connected to the Heron lineage.

Valerie Heron-Gordon, one of the organisers of the event, said, the reunion was the idea of close family members who were researching the ancestry of the name in Jamaica.

Good way

"They felt that a reunion would be a good way to fill the gaps in the research," she said. "There were two Heron brothers who came here from Scotland in the 1700, so we are trying to trace the lineage."

Heron-Gordon emphasised that the upcoming event was open to anyone with ties to the Heron name and that this year's event would be pulling participants from as far as Australia and the United Kingdom. "It's not like we are going to stop people at the door and ask them to provide proof of how they are related to the family; it's all about the family fitting the puzzle together," she said.

Additional information on the event and the Heron family tree can be accessed on the local Heron website: http//jamaicaheron.com.
