Rasbert Turner, Star writer

spanish town

A motorist who killed a senior citizen along the Bog Walk gorge, St. Catherine, more than two years ago, was found guilty for causing death by dangerous driving.

Nigel Phidd, in his 50s, who is of a St Catherine address was fined $250,000 or six months hard labour, suspended for two years when he appeared in the St Catherine Circuit Court last week Thursday, June 3.

Investigating Officer Garfield Byfield of the Ewarton Traffic Department, gave evidence that on May 3, 2006, about 2 p.m., Phidd was travelling along the road towards Bog Walk, when he drifted in the path of an oncoming vehicle and the collision left 89-year-old Annie Scott of a Spanish Town address, dead. He was sentenced by Justice Jennifer Straw. He was given a month to pay the fine.
