Naja Campbell is airborne in his solo performance entitled: 'Afraid'.Portmore Dancers, Integrated Cultural Expressions, pleased the crowd at their third annual Season of Dance at the Portmore HEART Academy on June 1.
The show, which was poorly attended last year, received a big boost from Twyn City Network in terms of sponsorship and enjoyed an improved audience. Those who came out were not disappointed. Even after the final act, a dance drama piece portraying the crucifixion of Christ, the audience failed to budge although the leader of the award-winning performing arts group, Anthony Carson, told them the show was over.
Special recognition should go to Anthony Carson and his partner Brittany in their contemporary dance portrayal of Don't, while the girls gave an energy blitz in Girls gone wild, a reggae medley.
The girls were also passionate in their dance about haunted souls, not breaking free, before they teamed up with the men in a rock and roll piece called Rock time. This dance made way for the speech We tired a it, as the senior and junior males hit out against the violence plaguing our nation.
The Avenger, who closed last year's show, came prior to the break and was pleasing and amusing to the audience.
Poetry and drama also provided a different flavour to the proceedings.
Seven actors: Onesha McTaggart (Lucresha), Thalia Hall (Josephine), Triston Hall (Joseph), Anthony Carson (Cornelius), Juline Clarke (Jaffett), Floyd Carson (Thomas), and Sherona Smith from the group performed the play Deceit, which succeeded in gripping the audience.
At the end of the show, the cast waved to their audience as they received a big round of applause.
