A 27-year-old steelworker, Jason Jackson, otherwise called 'Jacko' of a Burke Road address, in Old Harbour, was allegedly shot and killed in a shoot-out with the police on Thursday, July 10, about 11:15 p.m.

According to reports, the Old Harbour police received a call that there was some disturbance at Rhone Park Housing Development off Darlington Drive in the town.

On their arrival, they saw a group of three suspicious-looking men. The police were in the act of apprehending them, when the men opened fire on them.

returned fire

The fire was returned, and after a search of the area, Jackson was found clutching a .38 revolver with three live rounds. Two spent shells were also found at the scene.

He was taken to the Spanish Town Hospital where he was pronounced dead. His companions escaped.

This was the second time that the police were called to that location for the night. In the earlier incident, a group of men were taken into custody, and a .22 revolver recovered.
