The Montego Bay police were kept busy on Sunday when gunmen went on a rampage in the Norwood community.
In the first incident, an 89-year-old man was shot and killed and his house set ablaze in Hendon, Norwood, St James .
Dead is John Simpson of Hendon in the parish.
Reports from the Constabulary Communication Network's liaison officer for St James are that about 6 a.m., citizens saw fire coming from Simpson's house and called the police. The police found Simpson's body, with multiple gunshot wounds in one of the bedrooms. Two other rooms in the house were also burnt.
Later that morning, about 11:50, a 32-year-old grocer was shot and killed by gunmen at his business place in Mount Salem in the parish.
The dead man has been identified as Gerald Thompson of Hendon, Norwood.
Reports are that about 11:50 a.m., Thompson was at his business place when two men armed with guns, entered. The men opened fire, hitting him several times before escaping. The police were alerted and Thompson was taken to the Cornwall Regional Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
The Montego Bay CIB is investigating both matters.
