It seems the authorities at some of the island's finest hotels have had enough.
The lead story in the Tuesday STAR announced that three dancehall artistes had been banned from staying at the posh resorts. One manager said his resort was not prepared to deal with the disrespectful behaviour usually displayed by some of the artistes. He explained that in many instances, the artiste who had the reservation showed up with several additional people who were not catered for. He also made reference to artistes preparing marijuana publicly in the hotel lobby.
Though it would be unfair to attribute this kind of behaviour to all dancehall artistes, those who, in fact, behave disgracefully should be punished and if this punishment comes in the form of being blacklisted, then so be it.
This move might seem extreme to some, but to a manager trying to protect his hotel's property and image, the move is quite fitting. Many artistes tend to believe that the world should fall at their feet and some simply have no regard for people and their properties. In order to prevent chaos and embarrassment, the managers have taken a very proactive move. If the artistes cannot abide by the rules of the resorts and respect the property, then all they have to do is stay away.
It sometimes takes drastic moves for people to realise the error in their ways and this decision is simply one such move.
