As thousands of eager patrons gathered at the Catherine Hall Entertainment Complex for Sumfest's Dance-hall Night, police held a man suspected to be wanted in Kingston for murder.

"The man was spotted and whisked away to jail," revealed Superintendent Steve McGregor commanding officer for St James and ground commander at Sumfest.

McGregor explained that the police will not yet reveal the suspect's name.

The man was held just before 3 a.m. on Friday.

Nevertheless, both the police and head of security for Summerfest productions Godfrey Dyer told The STAR that, in terms of security, everything went well.

McGregor stated that there were no major complaints. He did, however, disclose that there were some reports of personal belongings such as purses or cameras being either stolen or lost.

He attributed the easy theft of people's belongings to the large crowd, which he estimated to be at over 30,000.

Executive director of Sumfest Productions, Johnny Gourzong, also told The STAR that the first night went well. "Everything went really smoothly," he said.

This year marks the 16th anniversary of Sumfest, an annual stage show held in Montego Bay, St James. This year's line-up saw popular deejays like Vybz Kartel, Mavado, Busy Signal and Beenie Man thrilling the crowd on Dancehall Night.
