The lead story in Saturday's STAR, and the follow-up story in today's paper are indeed heart wrenching.
According to the story, a 12-year-old boy committed suicide after finding out that two of his prized pigeons had been set free. Perhaps the most tragic part of this story however, is that the birds reportedly returned after two days. This was however two days too late as little Romario was already gone.
It may be hard for us to understand the thinking behind his actions but he is, after all, a child. We perhaps will never know the connection and special feelings of attachment he had for his pets, and what eventually pushed him to a point of no return.
It is sad that such a young life had to end in such a tragic way, and we are sure that if the person who set the birds free had any clue that his reaction would be such, it would have never been done. We can only hope that his family feels no guilt about this tragedy as no one can predict the future. There is no way they could have known the fatal turn that day would take.
Those who are left behind after an act of suicide, usually find it hard to understand or accept the way their loved one passed away. This is understandable as, with such an act, there is no chance to say goodbye or offer final parting words.
We can only hope that Romario's family will find some way to move past this tragedy and piece their lives back together.
