Dear Pastor
I was born in Jamaica and when I was in high school I met the love of my life. After I turned 17, my mother took me to the States. I kept in touch with my boyfriend until I started hearing a lot of foolishness about him, but it never stopped me from loving him.
I moved on with my life and I got married to another man and had a child. We were married for seven years until he did me wrong and we got divorced. I went back to Jamaica in 2003 and saw my high-school boyfriend after 11 years and all my feelings for him came back and stronger than ever.
Broken life
I spent 10 days in Jamaica and returned to Florida. I tried my best to see him at least three times a year. He told me he got a girl pregnant. He found out later that the baby was not his and the girl left him for the child's father.
Pastor, I love this man and he loves me. I see that every time when we are together and even when we are not together. I went to Jamaica in December 2006 and that was the happiest time of my life. A couple months ago I went to see him and he asked me to marry him. He will be leaving Jamaica in a few weeks to live here with his family and I am afraid that when he gets here he is going to change. I am asking for some fatherly advice.
D.B., Florida, USA
Dear D.B.,
Why don't you believe this young man? He has proposed to you and both of you are very much in love. Why worry? Before you say "I do", both of you should go for pre-marital counselling.
