If the long line to get into the Mas Camp Village on Saturday night for Heineken Yesterday was any indication, then it could easily be said that patrons were happy to see the first staging of the event this year.
With the controversy over the arrest of one of the promoters surrounding the event, it was a surprise to still see such a huge crowd turn out for Yesterday.
The large, general area was packed, leaving only an area in the middle where few persons danced and inside the VIP area persons were milling around, enjoying the vibe. The VIP area had food available from So So Seafood and beverages flowed freely from an all-inclusive bar.
Renaissance was busy at the turntables, teasing with snippets of popular songs from the '90s.
In the main area there was dancing fever as persons kept up the energy, while others refreshed themselves by going to the bar which was well stocked with Heineken.
While the venue was chilly from the earlier rains, persons on the dance floor were working up a sweat. Women, who were skimpily clad, misbehaved for their male companions, and bent over in suggestive positions while dancing.
Soon, Mixmaster Marvin took over, changing the vibe with a little soca as the energy increased. Persons near the barricades to the VIP area used them for support as they got down to some serious wining. Marvin kept the pace going strong as more and more patrons came in, finally filling the centre of the venue.
surprise
Renaissance and Marvin brought back a little reggae and were soon assisted by a surprise appearance from selector Nicco Bam Bam. Nicco Bam Bam worked the patrons into a frenzy as he said "from yuh proud of yuh country, lemme see the lighters". Persons across the venue complied.
What, today, would be called a 'daggering' segment soon ensued as the women went completely wild to hits like, GoGo Wine, Ole Dawg, and others. Even the VIP area started to fill with persons dancing while the bar became crowded with others anxiously trying to get a drink.
By 3 a.m. the final vestiges of the party became apparent as patrons began to leave the venue looking tired but contented.
