An August 15 mention date was yesterday, set in the case against George Edwards, charged with impersonating a police officer, when the accused appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's court.
The court was told that Edwards, in registering his child by his girlfriend, stated his occupation as police officer. However, after the relationship broke off between him and his girlfriend, the matter was brought before the family court. Edwards failed to show up and a letter was sent to the commissioner of police reporting the 'lawman'. It was later discovered, after an investigation, that Edwards was neither a member of the Island Special Constabulary Force (ISCF) nor the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF). He was arrested and brought before court afterwards.
The lawyer of the accused man however argued that her client could not be charged with impersonating a police officer based on the statements regarding the case.
The matter returns to court on August 15.
