Alleged robber shot dead

A man alleged to be one of a group of robbers being sought by the police in connection with a number of robberies along Barnett Street, St James, was fatally shot yesterday.

Dead is Jeffery Johnson of Gulf, Norwood, in Montego Bay, St James.

A home-made gun was also seized and his alleged crony arrested.

Robbing bar

According to reports, the police were alerted while the alleged thugs were robbing patrons at a bar.

Upon arrival of the police the men ran. The police reportedly gave chase during which Johnson pulled a gun and aimed at the police, who opened fire, hitting him.

He was rushed to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Recent police reports summarise that several persons have been robbed along the street.

The police say that the victims are often dragged on to a nearby lane where they are relieved of cash and personal items.
