GEORGE HENRY, STAR Writer

Beryl Dussie - George Henry
Beryl Dussie has been in teaching for the past 36 years. She has been teaching at Frome Technical High School in Westmoreland for 33 of those years, and has never broken her service in the education system.
"I had the passion for young people from ever since I was a child; and I went to Bethlehem (Teachers' College) when my sister was graduating; and they had asked me if I wanted to take my sister's place there, since she had done so well at Bethlehem, and I said yes. Then I got a tour of the compound and I liked what I saw and I went to Bethlehem," said Dussie.
Four decades
The veteran teacher pointed out that she has been in the profession for almost four decades because she wants young people to excel in whatever they are doing to better themselves, and so she tries her best to be dedicated to her work. She made it clear that she has never been late for work over the many years, and will continue doing so until she leaves teaching.
Now a Guidance Counsellor at Frome Technical, Dussie, in comparing her early years in teaching with what obtains currently, said morals have broken down these days. She stated that she would not mind spending extra years in teaching after retirement in an effort to assist in having that corrected.
The teacher added that in her early years in the classroom, parents used to take their children to school, and that there was discipline behind that. Students in those days she said could not be rude to anyone, as there had to be respect exhibited. That she said, is gone entirely.
