Bail was yesterday denied for businessman Steven Causewell who was implicated in the death of his ex-girlfriend, Nordia Mitchell at Oakland Apartments Constant Spring, St Andrew, when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday.
Mitchell, 28, was found dead on July 16 at the upscale apartment complex.
Resident Magistrate Glen Brown denied the application on the grounds that the court had not received the post -mortem report or an outstanding statement to be collected by the police.
The St Andrew North police took Causewell into custody shortly after the incident, which occurred over two weeks ago.
Bruises
Mitchell's body was found with bruises and signs of physical injury, which confirmed reports that she had been involved in a physical altercation with Causewell as was being reported. Rumours also suggested that Mitchell had been thrown from the window of the apartment building. The police denied this however stating that there is no evidence to validate the argument.
Michael E. Deans, lawyer of the accused, said while statements may state his client had an altercation with the deceased on the day in question, there is neither evidence nor an eyewitness that can be used to build a murder case against Causewell.
In making his bail application, Deans told the court that his client had already surrendered his travel documents and had strong business and family ties to Jamaica, hence he would not be a flight risk. RM Brown's initial denial did not change however.
The matter is to reappear before the courts on Thursday, August 7.
