'Extortionist' granted bail

A man accused of demanding money for a parking spot in downtown Kingston was granted bail when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.

Terrence Henry, 27, of a Regent Street address, appeared before Resident Magistrate Glen Brown to answer to charges of demanding money by force.

The court heard that the complainant, who was attempting to park his car in the area, was approached by five men who demanded $500 each. Henry was reportedly one of the five. The court further heard that some of the men were armed with knives.

Henry's lawyer, however, told the court that his client did not fit the descriptions given for any of the men and was innocent. Henry was granted bail in the sum of $30,000 with surety.

He is to return to court on September 15.
