Disgust with Amnesty International statement

The Editor, Sir:

A few months ago, Amnesty International posted a very irresponsible and insulting statement about my people. The statement was an indication that we are savages. "Let them kill themselves" is rather disgusting for an organisation, which should be in the interest of all people across the globe.

We are all aware that our people are some of the most violent on record, presently, but there is no justification in this utterance. We are not savages and, to be truthful, only a minuscule number of the population behaves in such a manner. I am really upset because of the nature of the organisation that has made the statement. We seem not to have any friends in high places, but they are going to be tired to see our faces.

We are to be blamed, somewhat, for this malicious statement. We are a much indisciplined nation and we are getting worse and worse every conceivable day. Our socks need to be drawn up, so as to ensure that we are not insulted on the international forum again. If we could tone down our behaviour then we can be highlighted once more for the good things. The decent Jamaicans, who are not 'buttos', must all be sad because of the utterance. Hence, we must all continue to strive for the highest of ideals to impact on the future of the children of this nation.

I am etc,
