Yvette Christian will have to spend at least three months in jail for attempting to export marijuana to Barbados.
Christian pleaded guilty to possession of, dealing in and taking steps to export marijuana when she appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.
The court was told that Christian was preparing to board a flight to Barbados when her luggage was searched. marijuana, weighing approximately six kilograms (13 lbs) was found among her belongings.
When she appeared before Resident Magistrate Glen Brown, she admitted to the court that she was transporting the contraband for someone. She then broke down in tears. The court was told by an attorney who decided to provide assistance, that she has two children.
She was sentenced to pay $15,000 or serve six months for possession, admonished and discharged for dealing in drugs and ordered to pay $60,000 or six months for taking steps to export the drug. In addition, she will have to spend three months in jail. If her fines are not paid, she will serve a nine-month term.
