WOMEN FIGHT FOR VIDEO LIGHT ❏ Three to be sentenced after brawl at dance

Three women, who got into a brawl allegedly over the 'video light' while at a party recently, are now awaiting their sentences after they pleaded guilty yeterday.

Tiffany Spence, Tamal Morris and Felecia Gooden appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court facing charges of unlawful wounding and assault.

The altercation, according to allegations read in court, began because one of the accused thought she should be the centre of attention and the focus of the videographer and his device.

Allegations are that on August 2 the females were at a party being held along Seaview Road in St Andrew when a physical dispute ensued.

Slapped

During the incident, Spence was slapped across the face and hit with a bottle by Gooden, who was subsequently charged with assault.

It was also said that Morris attacked Spence, hitting her in the face with a bottle causing swelling. She was subsequently charged with unlawful wounding, to which she pleaded guilty, and assault, to which she pleaded not guilty.

Morris explained to the court that she was simply trying to 'part' the other two women.

Standing in the dock beside each other, the basic allegations were read out and incited a look of curiosity on the faces of persons in attendance.

However, as Resident Magistrate Glen Brown asked what had actually happened, there was subsequently a short period of laughter.

Confused

"What happened?" RM Brown asked, to which one of the accused women replied, "We were at a party your honour, di fight was over the camera."

"Oh the fight was over the video light?" RM Brown said with a confused look on his face. Shortly after which someone asked aloud, "A who win?" The question caused the courtroom into a burst of laughter and even RM Brown could not hold back.

Silence was quickly ordered before RM Brown tried to give his take on the incident.

"You think I don't know? I know what happened you know, one of you was dancing and the cameraman was looking but the other thought the video should be on her," he remarked as one of the accused nodded her head in agreement.

The women were ordered to seek mediation before being sentenced on October 13.
