Security guard charged with larceny

A security guard stationed at the Half-Way Tree Transportation Centre is now facing simple larceny charges after he reportedly stole two bags that were left for safe keeping in the security post.

THE STAR has learnt that the accused man, Omarlley Grant, 26, of an Edgewater, St Catherine address, also demanded money from the complainant for the return of her belongings. Grant is employed to a security company based in the Corporate Area.

Safe keeping

Reports are that the complainant, who is a 17-year-old student, mistakenly left her bags on a bus. The bags, which contained several items, including a cellular phone, a digital camera and other personal effects, were taken to the security post for safe keeping by the bus driver. It is alleged that Grant removed the bags.

Grant was held after the complainant called the cellular phone and was reportedly told by Grant that she could get the phone if she paid him a sum of money. She agreed to meet him and a sting operation was set up. He was then held and charged.

A search of his person also yielded a ratchet knife and he was charged accordingly for possession of an unlawful weapon. He is to appear in court this week.
