Entrepreneur seeks aid

Nickeisha Ingram has been the victim of abuse and has had to overcome many obstacles in life just to survive. And now she is asking for the public to help her help herself.

Although she has managed to take care of herself and her four children so far, she is now seeking the public's help to restart her business so she can better care for her family.

Custody battle

Ingram, 29, has been facing several challenges, chief among them a bitter custody battle with her mother over her first child, which is currently before the Family Court.

She is a hard working lady who has gone from community to community doing odd jobs just to survive. "My jobs are pure odd jobs. I went to St Thomas go pick a bag of coffee and used to get $150 per bag," she said.

However, her true earning power increased last year when she discovered that she had a talent for baking. She went and got level one training in commercial baking technology and started level two in the same area, but a lack of funds forced her to stop.

That did not stop her and she got a small loan and started baking puddings, muffins and cakes, being careful to make them as healthy as possible by carefully choosing the ingredients. She then walked the streets of the Corporate Area seeking a market for the products, a task she was somewhat successful at achieving.

A few months ago, she had to sell the equipment and stop the business when the operational costs began to surpass the profit.

Now broke and jobless, she wants a second chance at trying her business again. "I need some know how. Right now mi need a grant cause I cannot afford to pay back any loan," she said.

Mountain View

She lives in Mountain View in East Kingston and has received some help from her current boyfriend, who has been helping her to care for her children. However, she needs more and is asking people to help her to help herself.

Ingram said she would appreciate any assistance, whether cash, kind or advice that would help her to get back on her feet. Anyone wishing to assist Ingram can contact her at 928-0829.
