The Montego Bay police on Tuesday arrested three alleged rapists after they fell victim to a sting operation.
Police sources say the men, from a community known as 'Gully', were held during a special operation at the Dump Up Beach in the parish. As part of the operation, three women were sent to the beach under the watchful eyes of undercover cops on location. The men were detained while they trying to rape one of the women.
They are however yet to be charged as they are awaiting an identification parade in relation to other rape cases in the parish recently. Other areas including Forth Street and Sewell Avenue, which are said to be frequented by rapists, were also targeted by the police.
One senior officer told THE STAR the police will now be circulating an advisory in the parish, urging residents who might have fallen prey to any such act to come forward.
Tuesday's operation was set up following a spate of rape incidents last weekend.
Police say at least five persons were raped over the weekend including a 10-year-old girl who was reportedly raped near the Charles Gordon Market.
Her alleged attacker has since been arrested and charged with carnal abuse. His identification is also being withheld.
Meanwhile, the police say they will be maintaining a close watch on the areas said to be frequented by rapists.
