The annual 'Champions in Action' would have marked the end of the major concert season for the summer, but a tropical storm named Fay had a much different idea.
So on Saturday night just past midnight, The STAR braved the flood waters on Hagley Park Road in Kingston and made it on to the toll road heading towards the 'Sunshine City' where there was surprisingly
just a very light drizzle. But turning off the parkway on to the relatively short stretch leading to the entrance of Jamworld, there was an ominous absence of cars and vendors.

And although there was a handful of vendors on the main road outside Jamworld, as well as a light police presence, it was clear that there would be no show that night.
Still, vehicles rolled in even as some stragglers inside the venue were rolling out, three young women in very brief shorts getting out of the back of a Suzuki Vitara. There were bright lights in the parking lot, although there was no music from inside the venue itself.
When The STAR went down the slope to the parking lot one man said "no show nah keep. One transformer bus' up ova deh". Transformer or not, though, the rain would have eventually got out the champions, as returning
to Kingston along the toll road the rain started to come down in buckets.
'Champions in Action', known for its organisation, would have presented a very interesting line-up on Saturday night, with a blend of the dancehall/pop mixture of Sean Paul and Shaggy, the oldies of John Holt and George Nooks, the
roots of Etana and Tarrus Riley, dance moves of Elephant Man and the dancehall of Mavado, Bounty Killer, Capleton and many others.
It is the second consecutive year that 'Champions in Action' has been cancelled due to heavy rainfall.
