The sometimes volatile community of Waterhouse, Kingston 11 is high on the victory claimed by hometown hero, Shelly-Ann Fraser in yesterday's 100 metre finals.
On the heels of Fraser's victory however, there is controversy as the American athletes, who all failed to medal, are challenging the validity of the race. The athletes contend that Tori Edwards, who finished eighth, false started and was hesitant in moving off because she expected that the race would be called back. They are asking for a re-run.
News of this latest development, did not go down well with members of Fraser's community, who believe that a re-run would be extremely unfair.
One resident Icolyn Grant, said, "Yu crazy? That is not acceptable. We already won fair and square. They are trying to use that technique to see if they can get a chance to get a medal. If she had a false start why didn't she put up her hand. Why now, after the race? Almost all Jamaicans would respond negatively to that."
Another resident, Orlando Grant, added, "My personal view is that the Americans are trying to bring their world power to the Olympics. It is not their decision, to make a decision. Dem too nuff!"
The residents all agree that this protest by the Americans is an attempt to undermine the success of the Jamaican athletes, and all asserted that a decision against them would not be taken lightly.
