IT'S JAMAICA'S time to shine and it could be Mr Myaz's chance to get his big break in the music business.
The Maxfield Avenue artiste has already put pen to paper to celebrate Jamaica's stunning victories at the Beijing Olympics.
"A di athlete dem thing. A Melaine (Walker) thing. Dis a specially fi mi 'sista' pon di gully side," DJ Myaz told The STAR yesterday after a bumper crowd gathered at 'Melaine's Corner' following the runner's gold medal run in the 400 metres hurdles yesterday. There he thrilled them with this song:
Me know, you know Melaine did a go tek it
Di gold medal and a record she would set it
Long time a nuh now, Usain fast like a rocket
Right yah now him a di fastest man pon di planet
Oh, oh.
Mek mi hear unno shout out Melaine
Maxfield, loud, loud, loud mek dem hear it,
Usain Bolt him faster dan car
Every Jamaican is a superstar.
Myaz admits that the piece is a work in progress but said that the vibes after Walker's and Bolt's super runs was too great for him to keep the half-finished song to himself.
"Mi don't even finish it yet but mi just have fi do a thing fi mi sista pon di gully side. Mi a go fix it up, polish it up ... drop in di rest a di athlete dem name inna it," the artiste said.
Walker is in fact Myaz's neighbour in the violence-prone community. She won the 400m hurdles gold medal in an Olympic record 52.64 seconds to bring joy to the hearts of Jamaicans.
Bolt ran a magical 19.30 seconds in the 200m to beat Michael Johnson's 12-year-old world record, leaving no doubt that he is, as Myaz attests in song, the 'fastest man pon di planet'.
Bolt also ran a world record 9.69 to win gold in the 100 metres on Saturday.
