Don't blame the Church

Dear Pastor,

Is it true that faith without works is dead? If one showed partiality is that a sin? Why is it that our churches are so filled with women and you find the men mostly at the gambling house, bars and on the street corners? Many say that God is everything. They say He's love. If this is true why then do parents always leave their children at home while they alone go to church? Why do they not want their children to get some of this love of God? Is it that they don't love their children and if they do, why hide them from God?

Is it not partiality to gladly buy expensive stuff, put on the largest and biggest funeral for the dead, yet while that person was alive not even a sweet, much less a penny they would not give; they just didn't have the time of day.

Why is it that so many people travel from afar to see the obeah man and seek his advice? Why can't the church provide healing or is it that the church is without power?

L.W., St Thomas, Jamaica

Dear L.W.,

You are willing to blame the church for everything that is wrong in society. While you criticise the church, the church is busy doing it's best to meet the needs of the people. Only foolish persons think that nothing is being done. I wish you had said what you have been doing to help your fellow man. The question that you have asked indicate that you are ignorant and empty headed.

Perhaps you are unaware that Jamaica is a free country and people are free to attend church or not to attend church. And indeed free to make whatever decision they wish to make.
