Two women accused of trafficking a baby are to return to court on October 1, when the crown is expected to outline its position on the matter.
Dahlia Spence, the mother of a two-month old baby, who disappeared in May and Natanya Chickory, her friend, appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.
Both women are facing charges of conspiracy to human trafficking, human trafficking, child abandonment and creating public mischief.
The women's attorney told the court on the last sitting that the baby had been found and everything was fine and so she does not see how the charge of human trafficking would still apply. She said she wanted to know what exactly her clients would be charged with now.
Allegations before the court are that Spence's babyfather died when she was six months pregnant and she wanted someone to help her with the child. She agreed to have Chickory take her baby away to give her boyfriend.
However when time came for Spence to hand over the child, she indicated that she had changed her mind.
It is further alleged that two weeks after the baby was born, Spence gave the baby to Chickory, who would, in turn, give the baby to her fiancé, who was residing overseas. It is reported that when the man came to take the baby, Spence refused to meet him.
On May 28, Chickory took the baby to her fiancé, who it is alleged took the baby to Montego Bay, St James. Since then, neither Chickory nor Spence had been able to locate the baby.
The women, who are on bail, had their bails extended until the next mention date.
