West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo was scheduled to leave for New York yesterday to undergo surgery on his injured left ankle.

Bravo had previously indicated that he would have the surgery performed in November but said after careful consideration, he had decided to move forward quickly with the process.

Having previously sustained ligament damage, Bravo said he needed to urgently address the problem.

"I have played with the injury for the past couple years and have used painkillers and stuff but I cannot go on like this," the 24-year old explained.

"I need to have the problem corrected and as such I will be going across to New York to have surgery done on the ankle. I have pushed it to the limit and there is no way I could have continued on with the problem persisting."

The surgery in New York has been arranged by the West Indies Cricket Board and Bravo is scheduled to return to Trinidad on Sunday, with a goal of being 100 per cent fit prior to the English tour of the West Indies in early 2009.

Bravo attended the Stanford Superstars camp in August in preparation for the November 1 match against England but was not considered for selection for the Tri-Nation Series and the ICC Champions Trophy because of the injury.
